Power
Rankings: Chargers finish on top
The final Power Rankings of the 2006 season are
in. First, let's take a quick look back at our preseason
rankings. We came pretty close on some teams, but
wow, did we miss on some others. Of the 32 teams,
the only one we got exactly right was the Colts (No.
4). Only three teams in our preseason top 10 (Seahawks,
Colts and Patriots) finished in the top 10. The Chargers
and Ravens, who finished No. 1 and No. 2, were 16th
and 18th respectively to open the season. Among our
other big misses: Saints (No. 29 to No. 6), Jets (No.
31 to No. 8), Panthers (No. 2 to No. 20), Dolphins
(No. 9 to No. 24) and Buccaneers (No. 12 to No. 29).
Anyway, on to this week's rankings. We'll be back
after the draft and free agency with our offseason
rankings.

Power Rankings after Week 17 0f 2006 |
Ravens
ranked #2 overall
The Ravens locked up a first round bye
and a home-field playoff game in two weeks.
Finishing the year 13-3, the Ravens will
get some much deserved rest over the next
seven days.“A lot of people can really use
it. We can rest up a couple of injuries
in guys we have that didn't suit up today."
Jonathan Ogden hopes to be healed up for
the Ravens AFC divisional round.
Complete Power Rankings> |
Baltimore
Ravens - Power Ranking (2)
Hmmm ... this looks familiar. Stingy defense,
ball-control offense, good special teams?
Didn't we see this in 2000 when the Ravens
hoisted the Lombardi Trophy? |
Cincinnati
Bengals - Power Ranking (13)
Selfishness, lack of unity, concern for
individual stats. Players look in the mirror
and find the reasons why they're home for
the playoffs. |
Pittsburgh
Steelers - Power Ranking (14)
A sign that Bill Cowher is gone? In individual
meetings, some players fought back tears
(yes, even tough guy Joey Porter) and hugged
Cowher on the way out. |
Cleveland
Browns - Power Ranking (30)
Romeo Crennel is talking as though he'll
be back, but there will still be plenty
of changes in the offseason. |
